Family's 15-mile walk raises £2,500 for Nottinghamshire NHS Charities

A remarkable £2,551 has been raised for three Nottinghamshire NHS charities, thanks to the incredible efforts of Jane Gamble and her family. The funds were raised following the exceptional care provided to Jane and two other members of her family, including her granddaughter, who received support from Nottinghamshire Healthcare’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Eating Disorders team at Hopewood.

Jane Gamble, a Southwell resident, has always been quick to express her gratitude to those who help her. However, in recent years, she felt that words alone weren’t enough to convey her appreciation. Determined to give back, Jane decided to take action by organising a 15-mile charity walk. The walk began at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, passed through the CAMHS unit at Hopewood, and concluded at Nottingham City Hospital. On Saturday, 3 August 2024, Jane completed the walk in 4 hours and 50 minutes, accompanied by her family and two beloved dogs.

Jane has raised an impressive £2,551, which will be shared among three NHS charities. Nottinghamshire Healthcare Charity will receive over £850 of the total, which will be used towards staff welfare at the request of Jane and her family.

Jane shared her excitement, saying , “We had a fantastic day on our 15-mile walk, enjoying perfect weather and beautiful scenery. Most importantly, we raised significant funds for our three local NHS charities. Our whole family got involved, and their encouragement and support made the day truly special. We're thrilled with the outcome."

Nottinghamshire Healthcare Charity is deeply honoured to be one of the beneficiaries of Jane’s fundraising efforts. Jane’s granddaughter, Amie, received care from the CAMHS Eating Disorders service at Hopewood, where she was compassionately supported by Alexia, a Senior Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist, throughout her Autism diagnosis and beyond.

Amie’s Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Alexia Ringrose, said, “We are incredibly touched by the generosity of Jane and her family. Their donation not only acknowledges the care we provided to Amie but also reinforces the importance of the work we do every day. Knowing that our efforts have made a difference to this family means the world to us, and the funds raised will go a long way in supporting our team’s wellbeing, which in turn helps us continue to provide the best possible care to our patients. We are deeply grateful for their support, and we wish Amie well for her future.”

The other two charities benefiting from Jane’s efforts are Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity, which includes Kings Mill Hospital, where Jane’s husband, Malcolm, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and Nottingham Hospitals Charity, where Jane underwent a bilateral hip replacement at City Hospital.

Their efforts and the funds raised will make a significant difference in supporting our NHS patients, services and colleagues. It is heartening to see such community spirit and support for our cause.”
