Nursing Support Workers' Day

As part of Nursing Support Workers' Day on 23 November, we're celebrating all our support workers across the Trust, clinical and non-clinical, who make a huge difference and play a vital role in high quality care for our patients. You can see some of our fantastic support worker stories below.

Clare, Community Support Worker, Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment Team (ICATT) says:

“I go to work every day hoping to make a difference. My role includes working with lots of different staff care teams as well as individual patients with a learning disability and giving/receiving support from my wonderful team, the Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment Team (ICATT). The best part of being a community support worker is supporting patients to get out and about especially during a Pandemic and the restrictions it brought. It was very hard during 2020 but I got my trainers/walking boots out and walked miles and miles each week, giving my patients the opportunity to breath, to talk and to see open spaces even when it was pouring down with rain or snow, allowing them time to aid their recovery. 2021 has continued to be challenging but I would not want to work anywhere else! I love my job.”

Nicola, Ward Coordinator for Larwood Surgery was one of our OSCAR winners last year. She is an asset to the district nursing team and is known as the 'oracle'. Not only does she go above and beyond her role ensuring staff can continue to provide quality care for our patients, she also supports patients / carers if they ring up by reassuring them regarding when their next visit is planned. She is calm, friendly and deals with any situation professionally and sensitively. She is dedicated to integrated working as if she was a clinical member of staff, she is always available and happy to help.

Krystina is a Healthcare Assistant at Millbrook Hospital and was nominated for an OCSAR award last year by a patient who praised her 'consistently kind, caring and compassionate' manner. Krystina works hard to get patients involved in activities and always makes time to talk and make sure everyone is OK. Taking the time to ask questions and understand how patients and their families are feeling, Krystina really makes a positive difference to patients' lives.

If you have been inspired by the above stories, then why not check out our current vacancies page to see if there is a perfect opportunity for you to make a difference to patients' lives? You do not need to be a registered professional to do so.
